LIMPOPO – A Ritavi father arrested on charges of incest and sexual assault is now in police custody after a disturbing pattern of abuse against his 16-year-old daughter was exposed by a local church leader. The Limpopo case highlights ongoing, aggressive efforts by law enforcement to combat severe domestic crimes and protect minors within the Mopani District.
The horrific allegations first surfaced in May 2026 under deeply unsettling circumstances. A concerned church member approached a local pastor to report bizarre and inappropriate behavior occurring inside her home. According to the mother, her husband had been sharing a bed with their teenage child, attempting to justify the actions by claiming he was simply helping the girl with her schoolwork.
Taking the mother’s claims seriously, the pastor initiated a private and careful conversation with the 16-year-old. During this discussion, the teenager bravely opened up, revealing a hidden history of sexual abuse at the hands of her father. She detailed a specific, recent assault that took place on 27 July 2026 at around 17:00.
Following the teenager’s disclosure, the crimes were officially reported to law enforcement on 30 July 2026. Authorities immediately ensured the victim was taken in for a comprehensive medical examination. Investigators subsequently tracked down the 49-year-old suspect, a resident of Mokgolobotho Village, and took him into custody. The specialized Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit operating out of Tzaneen has since taken over the active investigation.
The arrest has drawn strong condemnation from provincial leadership, who are using the case to reinforce a zero-tolerance approach to domestic abuse. Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers praised the collaborative community effort that led to the suspect being taken off the streets.
“No child should ever have to endure abuse in the very home that is meant to protect her,” Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers stated. “This arrest sends a clear message that those who prey on children, even within their own families, will be found and will face the full might of the law.”
