EKURHULENI DISTRICT — A major coordinated law enforcement sweep has resulted in the arrest of more than 50 illegal immigrants during Operation Prosper in Springs, Ekurhuleni District. The targeted initiative, executed on Monday, 13 July 2026, focused specifically on locating and processing undocumented foreign nationals operating within the local policing precinct.
Representatives from the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) spearheaded the integrated operation. According to officials from both agencies, the joint effort zeroed in on the Gugulethu and Everest Informal Settlements. During the deployment, authorities systematically visited various residential premises and identified enforcement hotspots throughout the area.
SAPS and SANDF spokespersons confirmed that individuals encountered during the sweep were formally instructed to present valid identification and lawful immigration documentation. Persons unable to produce the required legal paperwork were immediately taken into custody and detained on charges of contravening the national Immigration Act.
This latest deployment underscores the continued collaborative strategy between national defense and police units to uphold residency regulations. Officials emphasized that integrated enforcement actions like Operation Prosper will remain a critical component in maintaining legal compliance and public order across the broader Ekurhuleni jurisdiction.
