SAPS Arrests Foreign National After Seizing Dagga Worth Over R240,000

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) stationed at Ekulindeni in the Gert Sibande District arrested a 45-year-old foreign national on Saturday, 16 May 2026, after seizing dagga valued at more than R240,000.

Acting on intelligence-driven information at approximately 20:35, police were alerted to a suspect allegedly transporting dagga from Steynsdorp to Johannesburg via Elukwatini in a Nissan NP200 with Mpumalanga registration plates.

Officers conducted an operational stop-and-search and intercepted a vehicle matching the description. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered dagga weighing approximately 33.067 kilograms, with an estimated street value exceeding R240,000.

The suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear in the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May 2026.
