SAPS Commits Maximum Resources to Investigate Attempted Murder of Major General Feroz Khan

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a high-level investigation following the attempted murder of Major General Feroz Khan, who was shot on Sunday evening on 3rd Avenue in Houghton.

The probe is being led by the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and the SAPS Detective Service. Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) to join the investigation to ensure all possible leads are pursued and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Major General Khan was scheduled to appear before the Madlanga Commission on July 1, 2026. While SAPS is aware of public speculation regarding the timing of the attack, the service stated it is premature and irresponsible to speculate on a motive or conclude the incident is linked to his anticipated commission appearance. Detectives will follow the evidence wherever it leads.

Lieutenant General Dimpane condemned the shooting, assuring the public that no resources will be spared in identifying, tracing, and arresting those responsible. She wished Major General Khan a speedy recovery and expressed her thoughts for his family during this time.

SAPS emphasized that it views any attempt to intimidate, silence, or attack individuals involved in judicial processes in the most serious light. The service affirmed its resolve to protect the rule of law, warning that any interference with the administration of justice or the work of the commission will be met with the full might of the law.
