Suspect Arrested for Possession of Suspected Stolen Meat in North West

NORTH WEST — A 37-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of suspected stolen meat following a police checkpoint in the North West province.

On Tuesday evening, 30 June 2026, at approximately 23:00, members of the Pudimoe South African Police Service (SAPS) stopped and searched a blue Toyota Conquest at a vehicle checkpoint on the N18 road near Dry Harts Village. During the search, officers discovered a large quantity of cow meat concealed under a blanket in the vehicle’s boot.

The suspect was immediately arrested. Acting North West Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo commended the Pudimoe SAPS members for their role in the arrest, which was conducted as part of an ongoing high-density operation aimed at combating crime and stock theft in the province.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Taung Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 2 July 2026, facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen meat.

Police investigations remain ongoing to determine the origin of the recovered meat and to establish whether the suspect is linked to additional stock theft cases.
