NORTH WEST — The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West has arrested a 35-year-old suspect in connection with a house robbery and rape that occurred in Mmabatho on Friday, February 27, 2026.
The arrest is the result of an intensive investigation led by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, with operational support from the Brits Crime Intelligence Unit and the Brits Trio Task Team.
According to police, the breakthrough in the case occurred when the suspect allegedly dropped his cellphone at the crime scene during the commission of the offenses. Forensic investigators recovered and analyzed the device, which directly linked the suspect to the incident.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 26, 2026, facing formal charges of house robbery and rape.
Acting North West Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo commended the involved units for their dedication, persistence, and collaboration in ensuring the suspect was apprehended.
Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
