Suspect Captured Following Deadly Motherwell Mass Shooting of Five Young Men

Law enforcement officials have taken a 28-year-old foreign national into custody in connection with the tragic deaths of five young men in Motherwell.

The breakthrough follows a horrific mass shooting that took place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. At approximately 13:33, officers rushed to a home on Mnenga Street in the NU10 sector of Motherwell after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the residence, police discovered five young males suffering from gunshot wounds.

The suspect’s capture is the result of an intensive probe led by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit based in Gqeberha. Relying on critical intelligence developed over the course of the investigation, detectives launched a targeted tracing operation. The manhunt commenced on the evening of Thursday, June 4, 2026, and culminated in the successful apprehension of the suspect by the morning of Friday, June 5, 2026.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata has publicly praised the detectives involved in the operation, commending the investigative team for their unwavering dedication and commitment to the case.
