Tshwane Vigilantism Crackdown: Eight Arrested for Murder and Attempted Murder in Atteridgeville Shooting

Following an intelligence-driven operation by the Gauteng DPC Tracking Team, suspects linked to the deadly Hamba Juba Informal Settlement incident face imminent court appearance as police condemn mob justice.

GAUTENG – Authorities in Tshwane have apprehended eight individuals linked to a deadly vigilantism shooting in Atteridgeville, marking a significant development in the local crackdown on mob justice. The suspects now face two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder stemming from the violent incident at the Hamba Juba Informal Settlement.

The breakthrough occurred on Thursday, 16 July 2026, when the Gauteng DPC Tracking Team was deployed to track down the alleged perpetrators. Leveraging actionable intelligence, the specialized unit executed a rapid, intelligence-driven tracing operation that successfully pinpointed the suspects’ locations and led to their apprehension.

Following the operation, all eight individuals were processed and detained at Atteridgeville SAPS. They are slated to be formally indicted on the aforementioned murder and attempted murder charges, with an upcoming appearance scheduled at the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court in the near future.

Addressing the severity of the crime, Major General Samuel Thine, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, issued a firm denunciation of vigilantism. He emphasized that citizens must strictly refrain from taking the law into their own hands, urging the community to rely on official law enforcement channels to achieve justice.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that active investigations into the Hamba Juba Informal Settlement incident remain ongoing as the case docket is prepared for prosecution.
