LIMPOPO — A Tubatse man sentenced for attempted murder has been handed 15 years in direct imprisonment following a violent, unprovoked stabbing. The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo confirmed the ruling, with the provincial spokesperson welcoming the court’s decision to hold the perpetrator accountable and ensure justice for the victim.
The severe sentencing follows a harrowing incident that took place on 19 June 2025. According to police reports, a 26-year-old male victim from Riba Cross was standing at the gate of his workplace in the Sekhukhune District when a Toyota Rumion pulled up. The driver allegedly directed unprovoked insults at the young man. When the victim calmly asked the driver to show respect, the situation escalated violently.
The accused allegedly grabbed the victim by his clothing and stabbed him three times in the stomach before fleeing the scene. Despite his severe injuries, the victim managed to secure help from a passing Good Samaritan, who immediately transported him to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The investigation was spearheaded by Constable Robert Mogale of the SAPS Tubatse. Through diligent follow-up on all investigative leads, Constable Mogale successfully tracked down the accused, identified as 44-year-old Thagelo McDonald Sebola, ensuring he was brought to justice.
On Tuesday, 13 October 2026, the Burgersfort Regional Court found Sebola guilty. In addition to the 15-year prison term, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm in accordance with Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
