Two Escape Uninjured Following E-Hailing Vehicle Ambush in KwaZulu-Natal

NDWEDWE – Two occupants escaped uninjured after their e-hailing vehicle was ambushed by gunmen on the Ndwedwe Main Road near Sebenzele High School in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Tuesday night, June 23, 2026.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the scene at approximately 23:15 following reports of a shooting.

According to the occupants, they were travelling from Hazelmere to Mona in a white Toyota Rumion being utilized as an e-hailing vehicle. They reported that a Hyundai SUV began tailing them from a tuckshop in the Pholopholo area before the attack commenced.

The ambush was allegedly coordinated. A suspect armed with a rifle, concealed in dense vegetation adjacent to the roadway, opened fire on command. Simultaneously, the occupants of the pursuing Hyundai SUV discharged handguns. Information gathered at the scene indicates that the attackers utilized one rifle and two 9mm pistols during the assault.

The Toyota Rumion sustained extensive damage after being struck multiple times. The vehicle’s windscreen, tyres, doors, bonnet, and boot were damaged by gunfire, and the vehicle was eventually immobilized after a tyre was destroyed.

Both occupants remained inside the disabled vehicle and feigned death until the suspects fled the area. Neither individual sustained any injuries.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
