Celebrating its 4th anniversary on Sunday 18 October 2026, the Boxer Super Run Durban allows runners to choose the start wave that best fits their sporting abilities and/or goals on race day.
The Boxer Super Run boasts four dedicated start waves. While entry to the ELITE WOMEN and ELITE MEN waves is by invitation only, runners can choose between the OPEN WAVE and SUPER SOCIAL WAVE according to the type of race-day experience they are looking for.
“The beauty of the Boxer Super Run is that every participant can choose their place on the start line,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “From runners chasing a personal best in the Open Wave and groups bringing the energy in the Super Social Wave, to the country’s top athletes battling for the Elite titles, each wave brings its own excitement and makes the Boxer Super Run a truly inclusive 5km experience.”
Highlighting the importance of giving participants the freedom to choose an experience that suits their running goals, Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores, says: “The 5km distance makes this event accessible enough for someone taking on their first run, while still providing a genuine test for experienced athletes. It is incredibly rewarding to see such a diverse group of people come together, each with their own reason for being there, but all united by the same 5km journey.”
For those looking to put their running ability to the test, the OPEN WAVE provides the ideal starting point. Getting underway at 07:00, this wave is aimed at runners who are ready to chase a fast time but are not competing in the elite field. Club runners, school teams and participants with a personal best in their sights can use the Open Wave to test themselves against the clock and enjoy the competitive energy of the Boxer Super Run.
The SUPER SOCIAL WAVE is all about embracing the fun side of the event. Starting between 08:00 and 09:30, it offers a more relaxed way to experience the 5km with family, friends or colleagues. There is no pressure to chase a finishing time – participants can walk, jog, laugh, take in the atmosphere and make the most of the day. Dressing up and adding a splash of personality is encouraged, with the Super Social Wave bringing plenty of colour and character to the route.
The competitive intensity reaches its peak with the ELITE WOMEN (starting at 09:45) and ELITE MEN (starting at 10:00) waves, where some of South Africa’s leading athletes will battle it out for the coveted Boxer Super Run titles. Reserved for invited athletes, these races provide a nail-biting showcase of speed and talent, giving spectators the chance to see some of the country’s best runners go head-to-head over the iconic 5km distance.
Pillay adds in closing: “With four distinct waves offering four very different ways to experience race day, the Boxer Super Run continues to demonstrate that 5km running is for everyone – whether you’re chasing the clock, chasing a personal milestone or simply chasing a great day out”.
