A tense SWAT standoff in Henry County ended peacefully Monday morning after a domestic shooting left a woman wounded and prompted a barricade situation.
Henry County police responded to a reported domestic incident around 10:15 a.m. on Arden Place in Ellenwood. Upon arrival, officers found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders provided aid at the scene before rushing her to a local hospital. Her current condition has not been released.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, leading authorities to call in a SWAT team and initiate negotiations. The standoff lasted approximately one hour.
The suspect’s lawyer was brought in to assist with talks. In comments captured on scene, the attorney said: “It definitely could have gotten a lot worse. We were able to both convince him, you know, myself along with the officers that was on the scene was able to convince him to come out, um, for us to deal with it.”
The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident. An investigation remains ongoing.
No charges have been publicly detailed at this time, and authorities have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim. Police continue to investigate the domestic incident that sparked the shooting and subsequent barricade.
