PROVIDENCE VILLAGE, Texas – An 18-hour hostage standoff is ongoing in a Denton County neighborhood after a man called 911 late Monday night claiming he was holding a woman and a female juvenile inside a home on Thoroughbred Drive in Providence Village.
Authorities have maintained wide-perimeter positions around the scene and are avoiding any disclosure of tactical details as negotiators work to resolve the situation.
According to officials, the man initially called 911 around 11:30 p.m. Monday and warned officers that if they approached, he would shoot the woman.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, the man inside released the female juvenile. Following that release, the Denton Police Department SWAT team was called in and has been negotiating with the suspect ever since.
Residents in the area have been instructed to continue sheltering in place.
Authorities have not disclosed how the man and woman know each other, or if they do at all.
More information is expected as the standoff continues.
