Sandy Springs police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday evening at an apartment complex in the city.
Officers were called to the scene just before 8:30 p.m. in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, they found the victim and attempted life-saving measures for some time, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have cordoned off a large area of the complex, including the driveway and parking lot near Building 3 and 200, preventing residents from entering their homes while the investigation continues. A vehicle with its hazard lights on and driver’s side door open was observed inside the taped-off crime scene.
Police from Dunwoody, Lawrenceville, Alpharetta, and other agencies, including K9 units, responded to assist with the search for the suspects, who fled the area. The K9 teams tracked outside the complex, and there were unconfirmed reports that one of the suspects may reside at the location.
Residents who spoke with reporters said they heard the shots but did not witness the shooting or see the suspects. The scene remained highly active late into the night, with many frustrated residents locked out of their apartments.
At the time of the latest updates, no description of the suspects had been released, and no information about the victim’s identity was available. Sandy Springs police are expected to provide further details once the scene is cleared, possibly overnight.
The investigation is ongoing, with multiple law enforcement agencies continuing to work the case.
