WASHINGTON — House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan is standing firmly behind Donald Trump’s Iran negotiations, declaring absolute trust in the president’s diplomatic strategy following a recent congressional briefing on the Middle East. The Ohio Republican confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and envoy Steve Witkoff led the session, outlining a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to address Tehran’s nuclear program.
Clarifying the nature of the agreement, Jordan emphasized that the MOU is not a legally binding treaty. Instead, he described it as a foundational outline and a mutual commitment to negotiate specific principles crafted by the administration’s foreign policy team. During the update, lawmakers were also informed that the Strait remains open, a development Jordan highlighted as a positive early indicator of the diplomatic posture. He noted that the framework will continue to shake out over the next several weeks as talks progress.
The congressman framed the current diplomatic push as an unprecedented departure from past executive branches. According to Jordan, previous commanders-in-chief lacked the resolve to confront Iran’s nuclear weapons pursuit directly. He specifically pointed to the administration’s willingness to utilize decisive military options, explicitly naming operations “Midnight Hammer” and “Epic Fury” as examples of the leverage being brought to the table.
Jordan’s endorsement stems from a deep personal trust in the president’s decision-making process, which he argues consistently prioritizes the best interests of the United States and its allies, including Israel. To illustrate this point, the Judiciary Chairman pointed to Trump’s first term, specifically the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Jordan recalled the widespread skepticism surrounding that move, noting that critics claimed it was impossible before Trump successfully executed the policy anyway.
Ultimately, Jordan dismissed any concerns that the administration might settle for a disadvantageous agreement. He praised the president’s transparency and reliability, summarizing his leadership style by noting that Trump explicitly tells the American voters what he intends to accomplish and then follows through on those promises once in office.
