SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A man is recovering after being slashed in the face with a rusty machete in what police describe as a random attack Friday afternoon on the city’s northwest side. The suspect remains at large, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
The victim was walking under a freeway bridge near Interstate 10 and Vance Jackson when an unknown male approached him and struck him in the face with the blade. Police said the rusty machete left a two-inch cut across the man’s head.
Following the attack, the victim, bleeding heavily from the head, stumbled into a nearby Shell gas station seeking help. Officers arriving at the scene noted the victim’s head was “gushing blood.” He was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled on foot, ditching the machete on the other side of the freeway before running away. SAPD has described the wanted individual as an adult male of medium build, last seen wearing an aqua blue shirt and jeans.
Officers have been canvassing the area near the northwest side, speaking with businesses and witnesses in hopes of obtaining surveillance video that could track the suspect’s escape route. As of Friday evening, no arrests have been made, and the search continues.
