Teenagers Killed in Suspected Gang-Related Shooting in Westbury


A suspected gang-related shooting in the Westbury area on Tuesday has left two teenagers dead and four others in hospital, according to police.

The incident, which occurred on October 21, 2025, saw police in Sophiatown respond to a call where six teenagers had been shot.

Brigadier Brenda Muridili, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), provided details on the breaking news.

“The victims were rushed to hospital where two of them were declared dead on arrival and four are receiving medical attention,” Muridili stated.

Preliminary police reports indicate the shooting was gang-related. According to Muridili, the six victims, aged between 14 and 19, were shot at by three suspects believed to be from a rival gang.

A significant police response is underway. The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit is on the scene, supported by SAPS Forensic Services. Additionally, District Crime Intelligence has been mobilized to assist in tracing the suspects.

The community of Westbury is awaiting further updates as the investigation continues.
