Police in Sekgosese, Mopani District, have arrested two relatives – aged 38 and 82 – for the alleged murder of their 30-year-old family member, who was reportedly poisoned at Lemondokop Village this week.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, 28 October 2025. According to preliminary police reports, the deceased man had been suffering from severe stomach pains and dizziness. His condition deteriorated, and he lost consciousness while being transported to a local hospital via ambulance. He was declared dead before reaching the medical facility.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death raised concerns within the community. On Friday, 31 October 2025, community members approached the police with their suspicions, prompting an investigation. Authorities initially opened a case of inquest as detectives began their work.
Through a thorough investigation, police uncovered evidence suggesting the man was poisoned. The investigation led to the identification of the deceased’s 38-year-old uncle and 82-year-old grandmother as the primary suspects.
Both suspects were subsequently traced and arrested. The initial inquest docket has now been officially amended to a case of murder. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
The two accused are scheduled to make their first appearance before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 04 November 2025, where they will face formal charges of murder.
