On 15 December 2025, members of the Gert Sibande District Highway Patrol arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian national in Bethal for possession of substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
Police found Mandrax tablets, Crystal Meth, and Tik with an estimated street value of R80,000.
During the arrest, the suspect offered officers R1,000 in cash for his freedom, leading to an additional charge of bribery. The money was seized for investigation.
