Suspect Arrested, Charged with Murder After Addo Robbery Spree

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for murder and robbery within fifteen hours of two related incidents in Addo. The suspect faces additional charges for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The first robbery occurred on 05 February 2026 at approximately 16:35 in front of a spaza shop in Sunlands, Addo. Two men, one armed with a firearm and another with a golf stick, robbed a 31-year-old man of his cellphone and cash before fleeing on foot.

Shortly after, less than a kilometre away, the same suspects attacked two brothers, aged 16 and 20. After demanding cellphones, a scuffle ensued. The armed suspect shot the 16-year-old victim. The suspects stole one cellphone and fled. The wounded victim was taken to a hospital where he died. The 20-year-old brother was unharmed.

A team of Crime Intelligence officers and local detectives located and arrested one suspect on the morning of 06 February 2026 in the Ezinyoka area. An unlicensed firearm without ammunition was seized.

Police investigations indicate the seized firearm was stolen two days earlier during a housebreaking in Addo. The second suspect remains at large.

The 20-year-old arrested suspect will appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking and theft, and contravening the Firearms Control Act.
