
The Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, collaborating with brand protection agencies, conducted a series of targeted raids across the province in mid-February, resulting in the seizure of counterfeit and illicit goods valued at more than R2.5 million.
According to operational reports, the first inspection took place in Meyerton on 13 February 2026, where authorities visited nine shops. The operation led to the confiscation of counterfeit cellphone accessories, consumables, shoes, and illicit pharmaceutical products, with an estimated value of R127,150.
On 16 February 2026, units conducted inspections at six shops in Brooklyn. The raid yielded counterfeit items, primarily cellphone accessories and consumables, with a total street value of R1,441,350.
The most recent operation occurred in Johannesburg Central on 18 February 2026. Three shops were visited, resulting in the seizure of counterfeit watches and consumables valued at R1,023,250.

The operations underscore the Gauteng Police’s ongoing efforts to combat the trade in counterfeit and illicit goods, aiming to safeguard consumers and protect legitimate businesses from the illicit trade.
