A 25-year-old man is set to appear in court on Monday after he was arrested over the weekend for the alleged possession and dealing of cannabis (dagga) valued at approximately R478,000.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were conducting routine patrols along Schroder Street in Upington on Saturday, 07 March 2026, at around 08:30 when they observed a vehicle. According to police, the driver exhibited suspicious behavior upon noticing the law enforcement patrol.
It is alleged that the driver attempted to change lanes abruptly, which prompted officers to pull the vehicle over for a stop. When asked to produce his driver’s license, the suspect was unable to do so.
While speaking with the driver, officers reported detecting a strong odor of dagga emanating from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of multiple bags containing cannabis.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and has been charged with dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear before the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 March 2026.
