The Klerksdorp Regional Court on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, sentenced a 38-year-old man to 15 years imprisonment for rape, the Office of the North West Acting Provincial Commissioner has announced.
The court further declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearm Control Act, Act 60 of 2000.
The rape occurred on Sunday, 14 July 2024, at approximately 4:40 a.m. The victim, aged 44, went to bed and found her boyfriend already asleep. Her 38-year-old cousin approached her in the room, and she told him to go to sleep because it was late.
While the victim was sleeping, she felt someone being intimate with her. Believing it was her boyfriend, she opened her eyes and saw it was her cousin. A rape case was opened at SAPS Klerksdorp for investigation.
