Police Arrest Man With Two Illegal Firearms

A 25-year-old man from Mpumalanga Province has been arrested by Ficksburg police for possession of two unlicensed firearms, one of which was reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal in October 2024.

On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at approximately 03:25, Ficksburg police officers conducting patrols in the business area—known for business robbery incidents—noticed a Suzuki Dzire sedan parked in a dark area.

Police approached the suspicious vehicle. One of the passengers fled on foot into nearby bushes. The driver remained inside the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and 33 rounds of ammunition.

One of the firearms was circulated and confirmed to have been reported stolen in Thornville, Richmond, in KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The suspect has been charged and is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, on charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
