Two suspects arrested earlier this month for allegedly defrauding a local business are set to return to the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 May 2026, after being linked to nine additional fraud and theft cases in the area.
Amogelang Moleme (24) and Raphael Sitoe (39) were initially taken into custody on Friday, 15 May 2026, by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit with support from Klerksdorp Crime Prevention. Their arrest followed a tip-off that the pair had presented a fake order form to a Klerksdorp business, posing as representatives of a broadcasting authority to purchase electrical wiring.
Police intercepted the suspects shortly after they collected the wiring. Authorities seized stolen wiring valued at more than R200,000, as well as two vehicles allegedly used in the crime.
The duo made their first court appearance on Monday, 18 May 2026, and were remanded in custody until Monday, 25 May 2026. During the ongoing investigation, police linked the two suspects to nine further similar fraud and theft cases reported by businesses in Klerksdorp.
The North West police are urging any business owners in the Klerksdorp area who may have fallen victim to similar fraud schemes to come forward. They can contact Colonel Jacob Sebatane of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit at 071 481 2911, visit their nearest police station, call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS App on their smartphones.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the swift action of the arresting officers and again cautioned the public and business community to remain vigilant during transactions. He warned that fraudsters frequently impersonate employees of well-known companies and government entities using forged credentials. As this case demonstrates, he said, prompt reporting of suspicious activity can prevent financial losses and assist police in bringing offenders to justice.
