SAPS Olievenhoutbosch Arrests Suspect, Recovers Unlicensed Firearms and Suspected Stolen Vehicle

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Olievenhoutbosch arrested a 38-year-old male suspect on Friday, 29 May 2026, at approximately 09:30, following the recovery of two unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The arrest occurred during routine crime prevention patrols conducted by Olievenhoutbosch SAPS members along the Samrand and R55 roads. Officers observed a suspicious Toyota Hilux travelling in the area and initiated a traffic stop for inspection.

Upon being stopped, several occupants seated in the rear of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Police tactically approached and searched the vehicle, recovering two 9mm pistols and seven rounds of live ammunition. The driver was unable to produce valid firearm licences for either weapon.

A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the Toyota Hilux was fitted with false registration plates. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation and verification.

The 38-year-old driver was arrested and formally charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of other crimes and to establish possible links to outstanding criminal cases.

Major General Samuel Thine, District Commissioner of Tshwane, commended the officers for their vigilance and proactive policing efforts, stating that their actions directly contributed to the recovery of the firearms and the suspect’s arrest.

Police investigations remain ongoing. Authorities are actively working to trace and apprehend the occupants who fled the vehicle during the stop.
