Authorities in Kanana are pursuing three armed suspects following a fatal shooting at a local tavern on Saturday night, 30 May 2026, which resulted in four deaths and multiple injuries.
Police responded to reports of gunfire at the establishment and arrived to find four victims with gunshot wounds near the entrance and exterior of the tavern. Early investigative findings point to three unidentified male perpetrators, equipped with rifles and concealing their faces with masks, as responsible for the attack.
Among the casualties, a 15-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries and died near the tavern entrance. The violence prompted patrons to flee in different directions to seek safety.
The three other deceased individuals have been confirmed as male citizens of Lesotho, ranging in age from 30 to 36 years. Additionally, two Lesotho women, aged 30 and 45, were injured in the shooting and transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances of the incident. No arrests have been effected thus far.
Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, strongly condemned the violence and called on community members to collaborate with law enforcement by sharing any relevant information that could advance the investigation.
