Toddler’s Death Sparks Urgent Police Investigation in Limpopo’s Botlokwa Area

Limpopo police are conducting an urgent manhunt after a two-year-old boy from Maphosa Village, within the Botlokwa policing area of the Capricorn District, died under circumstances alleging sexual assault and murder.

On 30 May 2026, the child was rushed to Ga-Makgato Clinic suffering from severe abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Medical staff, noting the gravity of his condition, transferred him to Botlokwa Hospital for specialised treatment. Tragically, the toddler passed away shortly after arrival.

During medical examinations, the attending doctor reportedly identified signs consistent with sexual assault. Hospital authorities formally reported the incident to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Monday, 1 June 2026. A murder docket was immediately registered, and detectives have begun their work. No suspect has been identified or apprehended at this time.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, addressed the tragedy, emphasising the force’s dedication to child safety and justice.

“This is a deeply disturbing and heartbreaking incident involving an innocent and vulnerable child,” stated Lt. Gen. Hadebe. “We strongly condemn this senseless act and have mobilised our investigative resources to ensure that the perpetrator is swiftly identified, traced, and brought to justice. We appeal to community members who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.”
