MPUMALANGA — In a significant crackdown on illicit substances, Kaapmuiden police have seized 170kg of dagga worth over R1 million following a highway bust on the R38. The South African Police Service (SAPS) intercepted the massive drug haul during a targeted stop-and-search operation on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
The incident unfolded at approximately 09:20 when law enforcement officers were executing standard crime prevention patrols. During the routine check, they flagged down a white Nissan GD-6 single-cab bakkie. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed thirteen concealed bags packed with the illegal substance.
Weighing in at roughly 170.6 kilograms, the confiscated dagga carries an estimated street value exceeding the R1 million mark. Following the discovery, a 36-year-old male suspect was apprehended on the spot and formally charged with dealing in dagga. The seized drugs were logged into evidence according to standard SAPS protocols.
The accused is slated to make his first court appearance at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 June 2026, to face the dealing charges.
