THOYANDOU — Following a swift identification by the survivor, the Thohoyandou Police have executed a Malavuwe village rape arrest, taking a 50-year-old male suspect into custody for the alleged sexual assault of a 64-year-old woman.

The violent encounter took place at approximately midnight on Friday, 19 June 2026. According to authorities, the victim was navigating a street near the Sydney Simbai kraal when the accused ambushed her from behind. After physically assaulting and intimidating the woman, the suspect allegedly forced her into a nearby unfinished structure where the rape occurred. He subsequently escaped the area on foot.

After the victim managed to report the attack to local law enforcement, officers accompanied her to process the incident. During this police response, the survivor spotted the alleged perpetrator in the surrounding vicinity. She promptly identified him to the responding officers, resulting in his immediate apprehension.

The 50-year-old accused is currently in police custody and is slated to make his first court appearance at the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026. He is formally facing a charge of rape.

Law enforcement leadership has publicly commended the rapid detention. Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe issued a strong statement regarding the case, emphasizing the need for strict judicial consequences for those who target vulnerable individuals.

Detectives continue to build the state’s case as police investigations remain ongoing.
