Three Undocumented Foreign Nationals Arrested in Matjhabeng Drug Operation

FREE STATE — Three undocumented foreign nationals were arrested in Odendaalsrus on June 25, 2026, following a multidisciplinary police operation targeting a drug syndicate in the Matjhabeng District.

The operation was executed at approximately 12:00 by a team comprising the Free State Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, Welkom Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Crime Intelligence Surveillance Unit, the Selosesha Tactical Response Team (TRT), and the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit. Authorities utilized covert intelligence tactics as part of an ongoing, long-term investigation into local drug trafficking.

The suspects were identified as 37-year-old Azusor Ikennia John Kennedy, 36-year-old Orji Evalictus Okechukwu, and 31-year-old Henrietta Sibanda.

During the operation, police confiscated Crystal Meth, Mandrax, and Nyaope with an estimated street value of R130,000. A black Ford Focus, which belonged to one of the suspects and was used for drug deliveries, was also seized.

The three suspects face 13 charges related to drug dealing and possession under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act. Authorities noted that the suspects have approximately 10 other pending cases currently before the court, and additional charges regarding the contravention of the Immigration Act are expected to be added.

The accused made their first appearance in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court. The matter has been postponed to July 7, 2026, for bail information, and the suspects remain in custody.
