Triple Murder Probe Underway After Deadly Kanana Settlement Ambush

WESTERN CAPE — Law enforcement authorities have launched an intensive investigation into a Gugulethu triple murder after three individuals were gunned down inside a Kanana informal settlement shack on Saturday evening.

Detectives from the Western Cape Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit are handling the case. The fatal shooting occurred at approximately 19:00 on 27 June 2026, when a trio of armed men descended upon a residence located in the NY111 section of the settlement.

According to initial reports, the gunmen specifically sought out the female owner of the property. Finding the dwelling empty, the suspects allegedly lingered at the scene. When the homeowner eventually returned, the armed trio immediately opened fire on her and the other residents inside.

The barrage of gunfire proved deadly for three occupants. A 41-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman, and a 21-year-old man suffered critical gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, several other individuals who were inside the shack managed to escape the crossfire without sustaining injuries.

Police have not yet established a definitive motive for the bloodshed. However, preliminary intelligence gathered by investigators points toward the incident being a highly coordinated, targeted attack.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the killings, and the Serious Violent Crime Unit continues to pursue all leads in the ongoing probe.
