Kanana Murder: Woman Remanded in Custody After Fatal Domestic Violence Incident

Lehohang Felicia Shuping faces murder charges following the stabbing of her boyfriend, prompting urgent appeals from North West police leadership

NORTH WEST – A 31-year-old woman has been remanded in custody in connection with a fatal domestic violence incident in Kanana that resulted in the murder of her 44-year-old boyfriend. The suspect, Lehohang Felicia Shuping, appeared before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing her partner during a dispute.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at approximately 03:00, when members of the Kanana police station responded to a domestic violence complaint in the area. Upon arrival at the residence, officers were informed that the couple had engaged in a heated argument. The situation allegedly escalated when the woman stabbed the man with a knife.

Following the altercation, the suspect reportedly fled the residence and went to her parents’ home. Law enforcement traced her location, and she subsequently guided officers back to the crime scene. There, police discovered the 44-year-old victim’s body lying outside, suffering from severe stab wounds to the neck. Emergency Medical Services personnel who arrived on the scene officially certified the man dead.

Shuping was arrested at the scene and formally charged with murder. She made her initial court appearance on Friday, 3 July 2026. The case has been postponed to Monday, 6 July 2026, to allow for a formal bail application, and the accused remains in police custody pending the next proceedings.

Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, the Provincial Commissioner of the North West, publicly condemned the tragic incident. Addressing the community, Major General Naidoo urged members of the public to proactively seek help and intervention from authorities or counseling services before domestic disputes escalate into fatal violence.
