Durban Set to Host the 2026 SADC Industrialisation Week to Drive Regional Growth

South Africa, alongside the SADC Secretariat and Business Council, will convene the region's top policymakers and investors in KwaZulu-Natal this July to accelerate economic transformation.

DURBAN, KwaZulu-Natal — The 2026 SADC Industrialisation Week is officially set to take over the Durban International Convention Centre later this month, marking a critical milestone for Southern Africa’s economic integration.

Hosted collaboratively by the Government of South Africa, the SADC Business Council, and the SADC Secretariat, the flagship event will run from July 27 to July 31, 2026.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), the week-long gathering is designed to unite a diverse array of stakeholders. “The SADC Industrialisation Week (SIW) is a week-long programme that brings together policymakers, business leaders, investors, academia, researchers, development finance institutions from across the SADC region and beyond to advance regional industrial development,” the dtic explained.

A Premier Platform for Economic Transformation

Widely regarded as the largest public-private platform of its kind in the region, SIW serves as the premier hub for advancing industrialisation, boosting investment promotion, and fostering economic transformation.

Operating under the ambitious theme, “Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrialisation through Infrastructure Development, Agricultural and Critical Minerals Transformation in Pursuit of a Just World,” the 2026 edition acts as a high-level precursor to the 46th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Strategic Priorities for 2026

This year’s edition of the SADC Industrialisation Week will zero in on several high-impact focus areas designed to unlock tangible economic outcomes for the region:

  • Regional Value Chains: Cultivating development in agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, and critical minerals beneficiation.
  • Infrastructure Expansion: Promoting development across energy, transport, logistics, water, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
  • Capital and Collaboration: Driving investment mobilisation and forging robust industrial partnerships.
  • Empowerment and Innovation: Championing women and youth empowerment, alongside innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.

Advancing the 2015–2063 Roadmap

The event is deeply rooted in long-term continental goals. The dtic highlighted that the SIW directly supports the implementation of the SADC Industrialisation Strategy and Roadmap (2015 – 2063), a multi-decade framework anchored on three foundational pillars: industrialisation, competitiveness, and regional integration.

“The Strategy seeks to strengthen regional productive capacities, deepen value addition and beneficiation, and promote the development of competitive regional value chains,” the department noted.

A Comprehensive Programme for Stakeholders

Attendees will navigate a dense schedule featuring policy dialogues, technical sessions, strategic discussions, seminars, workshops, and targeted stakeholder engagements. These interactive sessions will focus heavily on industrialisation, trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, regional value chains, and private sector development.

The dtic emphasized the practical outcomes expected from the gathering: “The Industrialisation Week will provide a unique opportunity for governments, the private sector, development finance institutions and other stakeholders to engage in practical measures to accelerate industrialisation, address constraints affecting regional value chains and unlock investment opportunities that support sustainable and inclusive economic growth.”

South Africa’s Leadership as SADC Chair

As the current Chair of the SADC troika, South Africa has positioned the Industrialisation Week as a cornerstone of its regional leadership agenda.

“As Chair of SADC, South Africa remains committed to advancing the regional industrialisation agenda and to strengthening regional cooperation as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, industrial development and shared prosperity across the region,” the department’s statement concluded.
