FREE STATE — Following a tragic incident near a popular tavern in the Matlakeng area, authorities have confirmed a Zastron murder arrest involving a 20-year-old suspect. The young man is now in custody and slated to face the Zastron Magistrate Court in connection with the death of 27-year-old Kamohelo Thuso.
The sequence of events unfolded on Sunday, 12 July 2026, at approximately 13:30. Members of the Visible Policing Unit were actively on patrol when they were alerted by the Zastron SAPS Community Service Centre. The initial dispatch reported that an individual had suffered severe stab wounds in Itumeleng Location, Matlakeng.
Before law enforcement could reach the scene of the stabbing, the victim’s relatives had already rushed him to a nearby medical facility. Concurrently, a nurse stationed at the hospital filed a formal complaint regarding the incident. When officers arrived at the medical center at roughly 14:30, they conferred with the attending physician.
The medical practitioner examined the patient, identified as 27-year-old Mr. Kamohelo Thuso. Despite medical efforts, the doctor discovered no vital signs, and the victim was officially pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Swift preliminary inquiries facilitated the apprehension of the 20-year-old suspect, who hails from Phomolong Location within the same Matlakeng district of Zastron. Investigators noted a significant detail during the initial probe: the accused and the deceased shared the exact same residential address.
Law enforcement officials have stated that the motive for the lethal altercation remains unclear. Police in Zastron continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing, and the accused is expected to make his first court appearance in the coming days.
