LIMPOPO — A targeted Onverwacht drug bust in the Lephalale policing area has resulted in the confiscation of illegal narcotics, including Crystal Meth and Cat, valued at approximately R10,000. Acting on tips regarding local drug trafficking, a joint task force of Lephalale Detectives and the K9 Dog Unit successfully intercepted a suspected dealer and seized a substantial cache of illicit substances.
The proactive operation unfolded at approximately 08:00 on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. After receiving actionable information about a male suspect dealing drugs within the community, officers tracked him to a residential property in Onverwacht. Upon arrival, the suspect voluntarily granted the authorities permission to search the premises, leading directly to the discovery of the hidden drugs.
A police spokesperson detailed the exact inventory of the seized substances, which were immediately confiscated as evidence. The haul included three 5-gram packets of Cat, twenty-one 2.5-gram packets of Cat, and five 2.5-gram packets of Crystal Meth. Following the search, the suspect was apprehended at the scene and formally arrested for drug possession.
The 48-year-old Nigerian national remains in custody as the legal process moves forward. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, to answer to the possession charge.
According to the police spokesperson, detectives are continuing their investigations to uncover any broader syndicate links or additional suspects connected to the confiscated stash, as authorities maintain their focus on dismantling local drug distribution networks.
