DAVEYTON, Gauteng — A high-priority police manhunt for cash-in-transit robbery suspects is rapidly expanding across Gauteng following a major tactical raid in Ekurhuleni. Acting on actionable intelligence, law enforcement targeted a suspected syndicate safe house in Daveyton on Wednesday evening, seizing a significant cache of weapons and a stolen vehicle, though the primary targets narrowly escaped capture.
During the East Rand operation, officers thoroughly searched the Daveyton residence and uncovered critical evidence linked to recent heists. The recovered items include seven rifles, one pistol, high-visibility reflector jackets commonly utilized during coordinated ambushes, and a hijacked BMW. Despite the successful seizure of these assets, the suspects were not present at the premises when authorities arrived.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the individuals, who are believed to be responsible for a string of severe and violent offenses throughout the province, managed to evade the initial dragnet. An overnight manhunt is actively underway to track down and apprehend the known suspects before they can flee the area or orchestrate further attacks.
The operation received strong backing from Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, who commended the seamless coordination and swift action among all responding law enforcement agencies.
