GAUTENG — A major Ekurhuleni firearms arrest and stolen vehicle recovery operation has successfully dismantled a significant criminal cache following a targeted investigation. On the morning of July 23, 2026, the Ekurhuleni Task Team apprehended a 40-year-old male suspect and seized nine unlicensed weapons, assorted ammunition, and four stolen cars in Ebony Park.
The operational breakthrough occurred as investigators actively pursued leads connected to a recent business robbery in Kempton Park. This actionable intelligence directed the specialized police unit to a specific location in Ebony Park, where the suspect was taken into custody and the illicit items were subsequently discovered.
A detailed search of the premises yielded a substantial haul of contraband. Authorities confiscated five AK-47 rifles, two 9mm pistols, and two revolvers. In addition to the weapons, police recovered various rounds of ammunition, multiple magazines, and several vehicle number plates. The operation also resulted in the retrieval of four previously reported stolen vehicles, specifically identified as a Mercedes Benz, a BMW, and two VW Polos.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole formally recognized the operational success. Major General Sithole commended the task team for their vigilance and sterling work in securing both the illegal firearms and the stolen vehicles, emphasizing the critical impact of such proactive policing on regional safety.
