FREE STATE – A murder suspect has voluntarily surrendered to authorities following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Bohlokong, Free State. Local investigators are now actively probing the deadly assault, which took place in the Riverside section of the township near Bethlehem, as they work to establish a motive for the tragic incident.
The sequence of events came to light early Sunday, 26 July 2026, when law enforcement officials were alerted by a nearby medical facility at approximately 03:05. Hospital staff had admitted a teenage patient from the Riverside neighborhood of Bohlokong who was suffering from critical trauma linked to an alleged assault. Despite urgent medical intervention, the 16-year-old victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
According to preliminary police investigations, the deceased was allegedly attacked on a local street and stabbed in the head with a screwdriver. Authorities have emphasized that the motive behind this violent act remains undetermined at this stage of the inquiry.
In a subsequent development, the alleged perpetrator voluntarily presented himself to the Bohlokong police and was immediately taken into custody. Detectives have officially opened a murder docket and are continuing their investigative efforts.
The detained individual is slated to make his first formal appearance at the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, where he will face a charge of murder.
