Fatal Gugulethu Shooting Investigation Underway After Five Killed in NY 50 Home Invasion

Western Cape authorities and Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Luyanda Damoyi intensify the search for two armed suspects following a deadly early-morning attack that left five young adults dead and one critically injured.

WESTERN CAPE — A comprehensive Gugulethu shooting investigation has been launched following a deadly home invasion in the NY 50 neighborhood that claimed five lives and left one person wounded in the early hours of Monday, 27 July 2026. Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are actively working the multiple murder and attempted murder case.

Preliminary findings reveal that two unidentified armed suspects gained entry to the residence by kicking in the front door. The intruders reportedly demanded a firearm before opening fire on the occupants, after which they fled the scene and have not yet been apprehended.

First responders arriving at the property found the victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel declared four men and one woman, ranging in age from 19 to 23, deceased at the scene. A 20-year-old female survivor who sustained gunshot injuries was immediately transported to a medical facility for urgent care.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, has vehemently condemned the brutal incident. Major General Damoyi has issued a direct mandate to investigating detectives to pursue every available lead to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

To deter further violence and offer reassurance to local residents, additional operational police units have been deployed to the vicinity. Authorities state that the motive behind the attack is currently unknown as the investigation remains ongoing.
