FREE STATE — A devastating Vredefort father murder investigation is underway after a seemingly minor **cigarette dispute** in Mokwallo spiraled into lethal violence. Local authorities have apprehended a 32-year-old man accused of fatally bludgeoning his 61-year-old father, Mr Ndode Lenong, inside their family home.
Emergency Response in Mapetla Section
According to Vredefort police spokespersons, the incident triggered an urgent law enforcement response on Sunday, 2 August 2026. Officers were dispatched to a property in the Mapetla Section of Mokwallo at roughly 16:10 following reports of a violent domestic disturbance.
Upon entering the residence, responders discovered Mr Lenong resting on a bed, suffering from pronounced facial swelling and severe cranial trauma. Early indications from the scene suggested the victim had been attacked by his own child.
A Fatal Argument Over a Cigarette
While the exact weapon remains under forensic review, Vredefort police spokespersons indicated that the son allegedly utilized an unknown object to carry out the assault. Investigators probing the motive were startled to learn the catalyst for the deadly confrontation: a verbal altercation between the father and son regarding a single cigarette just moments before the physical attack occurred.
Desperate Medical Intervention
