EASTERN CAPE — The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested two persons of interest in connection with the Zolani Tete murder, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the fatal shooting of the well-known boxer in Mdantsane.
The suspects, aged 30 and 22, were apprehended in Ku Gompo on Saturday, 22 August 2026. These arrests followed a swift, intelligence-driven operation coordinated by multiple law enforcement units. Both individuals are currently in police custody and are being questioned regarding the murder, as well as the attempted murder of a 27-year-old female passenger who sustained injuries during the attack.
Eastern Cape Police Spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana stated that, due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, authorities cannot yet disclose further details regarding the motive or the specific circumstances surrounding the arrests. However, investigators are actively pursuing several leads, and officials have confirmed that more arrests are imminent.
