KARIEGA — A Kariega drug and firearm arrest resulted in the detention of a 33-year-old male suspect after the SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combating Unit executed a tactical raid on a Central Kariega residence. The operation successfully removed a significant quantity of narcotics and an illegal weapon from the community.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the sale of illicit substances at a specific house on Stow Street, law enforcement officials descended on the location on 23 August 2026 at approximately 15:30. Upon arrival, the suspect reportedly attempted to conceal the contraband. To secure the scene and prevent the destruction of evidence, tactical team members executed a rapid entry through the building’s roof.
A thorough search of the premises revealed a substantial illegal cache. Authorities confiscated 45 cultivated dagga plants, alongside a black bag holding 27.2 grams of processed dagga. Additionally, officers discovered and seized an unlicensed .22 calibre pistol accompanied by nine rounds of ammunition.
Following the seizure, the 33-year-old individual was formally taken into custody. He now faces serious charges, including the illegal possession of narcotics and the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combating Unit confirmed that the accused is scheduled to appear before the Kariega Magistrates Court on 25 August 2026 to answer to these charges.
