KHAYELITSHA – A major R2 million Khayelitsha drug bust has led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man following a coordinated law enforcement raid at Thaleni Square. The significant interdiction successfully disrupted a local narcotics distribution network through precise, intelligence-led policing.
The tactical operation was executed by the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team in close partnership with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team. According to official statements provided by Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi and Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, authorities acted on credible intelligence received at approximately 05:30 on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The tip-off indicated active, suspected drug-related transactions occurring at the specified premises.
Upon executing a swift search of the location, operatives uncovered a substantial cache of illegal substances. The seized contraband included nine sealed packets of Mandrax tablets, with each packet containing 1,000 pills, alongside an additional 300 loose Mandrax tablets. A secondary, more detailed inspection of the site yielded 12 sachets of crystal methamphetamine and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine.
The 37-year-old male suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He is currently being processed for formal charges related to the possession of and dealing in illicit drugs. Authorities confirmed that the accused is scheduled to make his initial appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once the charging docket is finalized.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that this successful seizure highlights the ongoing, collaborative efforts to dismantle drug syndicates, act decisively on community and operational intelligence, and remove dangerous narcotics from public circulation.
