NORTHERN CAPE — An Augrabies drug arrest has led to the detention of a 27-year-old woman after police uncovered dagga and tik cleverly concealed inside a child’s diaper. The bust highlights a highly effective, intelligence-driven intervention by local law enforcement.
According to police spokespersons, the operation was initiated when the Riemvasmaak South African Police Service (SAPS) received a tip-off. The intelligence indicated that a female suspect from Vredesvallei was en route to Augrabies to procure illegal narcotics, and she was reportedly traveling with a minor child.
Acting swiftly on this information, Riemvasmaak authorities relayed the details to their Augrabies SAPS counterparts. This seamless collaboration allowed officers from both police stations to coordinate a targeted, joint response. The suspect was successfully intercepted in Augrabies just as she was making her way to board a local taxi on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
During a search of the suspect’s belongings, officers inspected a diaper bag she was carrying. Inside the bag, authorities discovered the illicit substances hidden within a diaper. Police spokespersons confirmed that the confiscated dagga and tik carry an estimated street value of R1,800.
Following the discovery, the woman was formally taken into custody by the Augrabies SAPS. She remains in police detention and is scheduled to appear before the Augrabies Magistrates’ Court in the coming days to face formal charges of drug possession.
