GAUTENG – A 34-year-old man was arrested for unlicensed firearm possession following a high-speed chase in Eldorado Park late on 31 August 2026. Officials from the Eldorado Park Crime Prevention unit, working alongside Gauteng Traffic Wardens, apprehended the suspect after a brief pursuit that resulted in the seizure of an unregistered handgun and ammunition.
According to representatives from the Eldorado Park Crime Prevention unit and Gauteng Traffic Wardens, officers were conducting routine crime prevention duties on Heatherlands Street in Eldorado Park Extension 4 at approximately 22:00 when they heard multiple gunshots. Upon investigating the source of the gunfire, officials observed a blue Toyota Cross SUV accelerating away from the area.
Law enforcement initiated a pursuit with emergency blue lights and sirens activated. The driver failed to comply with initial signals to stop, leading to a high-speed chase that lasted approximately five minutes. The pursuit concluded when the vehicle was successfully intercepted and brought to a halt on Pennsylvania Street in Eldorado Park Extension 7.
Upon approaching the driver, officials conducted a search and discovered a 9mm Canik pistol in the suspect’s possession. Accompanying the firearm were two magazines: one empty and a second containing a single live round. The suspect was unable to produce any valid documentation or a license to legally possess the firearm.
The individual was immediately placed under arrest, and the weapon was confiscated for further forensic and investigative processing. Authorities have officially opened a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Protea Magistrate’s Court on 02 September 2026.
