NORTH WEST — Two suspects have been arrested and significant stolen property recovered following a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation linked to an armed business robbery in Rustenburg. The apprehended individuals, aged 32 and 42, were taken into custody after authorities seized two unlicensed firearms, ammunition, 13 cellphones, and a vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The arrests were initiated after the North West Crime Intelligence Provincial Overt Team received actionable information regarding an armed business robbery that occurred in Rustenburg on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. Investigators subsequently tracked a vehicle allegedly linked to the incident as it traveled toward the Magaliesburg area. During surveillance, it was established that the vehicle’s registration plates had been altered in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement.
In response, a joint tactical operation was activated, involving the North West Crime Intelligence Provincial Overt Team, SAPS Magaliesburg, SAPS West Rand District, BSO Tactical, BCI Security, Custodia Security, and Volsec Security. Upon identifying the target vehicle, operational members attempted to execute a stop, prompting the suspects to flee and initiating a vehicular pursuit.
The vehicle was successfully intercepted, after which four suspects allegedly fled on foot. Law enforcement officers apprehended two of the suspects at the scene, while the remaining two managed to evade arrest and are currently being sought by authorities.
During the arrests, officers discovered the two suspects in possession of the two unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and the 13 cellphones suspected to have been stolen during the Rustenburg robbery. The seized cellphones have an estimated combined value of approximately R195,000.00. The vehicle allegedly used in the robbery was also confiscated as evidence.
The apprehended suspects are scheduled to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 4 September 2026. They face initial charges related to the possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Firearm Control Act. Following the conclusion of the Magaliesburg court process, they will subsequently face formal charges relating to the business robbery in Rustenburg before the relevant court.
North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Adams, commended the law enforcement members and private security stakeholders for their coordinated and rapid response, which directly resulted in the arrests and the recovery of the suspected stolen property, firearms, ammunition, and vehicle.
