Blending Amapiano, Afro-House and 3-Step, the deeply personal project explores African identity, faith, love, heartbreak and resilience

Johannesburg, South Africa, 4 September – South African producer and artist Sobzeen opens the pages of his musical diary with Nguni Tales, a deeply personal new album shaped by the experiences, relationships and lessons that have defined his journey.
Moving fluidly between Amapiano, Afro-House and 3-Step, Nguni Tales turns Sobzeen’s own experiences into stories that reach beyond him. Across the project, he wrestles with faith, love, heartbreak, kindness and the resilience required to keep moving forward, creating a body of work rooted in African identity but connected by emotions that need no translation.
“This album is my diary. It is the sound of my journey—the highs, the lows, and the lessons learned along the way,” says Sobzeen. “When I named this project Nguni Tales, I wanted to create a home for every African soul. No matter what language you speak or where you come from, if you are African, this is your story too.”
That journey begins with album opener “Proof,” a statement of faith that establishes the spiritual foundation beneath the record. For Sobzeen, the song acknowledges the higher power he believes has guided him through a road that has not always been easy. From there, Nguni Tales becomes increasingly confessional, confronting the moments when his kindness has been taken for granted and the emotional consequences that followed.
“These songs are my confession and my release,” he explains. “But here is the truth I want you to take away: I still believe in love. I know your heart might be tired. I know you’ve been hurt. But I need you to work hard, keep your eyes on the horizon, and never stop believing that love is worth the risk.”
The album was first introduced through “Amasango,” a collaboration between Sobzeen and Born Kxng, featuring Ssips. Carrying the spirit of opening new doors and embracing what lies ahead, the track captures Sobzeen at a point of transition, choosing growth, self-belief and possibility despite what came before. Its fusion of Amapiano, Afro-House and 3-Step offered the first glimpse into the musical world that unfolds across Nguni Tales.
Focus track “Jikelele” sees Sobzeen reunite with Ssips for a vibrant expression of the album’s wider message. Infectious rhythms meet an emotive spirit as the pair tap into experiences that stretch across cultures and languages. Love, loss, hope and resilience may take different forms, but the feelings themselves remain familiar.
Throughout Nguni Tales, Sobzeen allows the personal and communal to sit side by side. His heartbreak becomes something another listener might recognise; his faith becomes a source of perseverance; and his willingness to remain open to love becomes an act of courage rather than naivety.
“If this album does one thing,” Sobzeen says, “I hope it reminds you that your broken heart is still capable of greatness.”
It is a sentiment that sits at the centre of Nguni Tales: wounds do not erase possibility. Through rhythm, reflection and an enduring belief in what lies ahead, Sobzeen transforms the difficult chapters of his journey into something that can be shared.
