NORTHERN CAPE — A 37-year-old alleged Loeriesfontein drug dealer was arrested following a vital community tip-off, resulting in the seizure of illicit substances with an estimated street value of R50,000.
Acting on the intelligence provided by a concerned resident, South African Police Service (SAPS) members promptly obtained a search warrant and executed a search at the identified premises in Loeriesfontein. The operation led directly to the suspect’s apprehension. During the search, authorities also confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of illicit drug dealing.
The suspect is expected to appear in court in the near future to face formal charges of dealing in drugs.
Acting District Commissioner of Namakwa, Colonel Moses Lekgwati, commended the police members for their swift and decisive action. He also publicly applauded the community member who provided the critical information that made the arrest possible.
Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, Colonel Lekgwati emphasized that community involvement remains critical in ongoing efforts to combat the illegal drug trade. The SAPS continues to encourage residents to share information with law enforcement, enabling decisive action against individuals involved in the distribution of drugs within local communities.
