GAUTENG – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested an alleged drug trafficker at OR Tambo International Airport, seizing approximately two kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding R800,000. This interception underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to dismantle illicit trafficking networks at the country’s busiest port of entry.
The 45-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Monday, 07 September 2026, following an intelligence-led operation. Authorities intercepted the individual as he was allegedly preparing to board a flight en route to Hong Kong, China.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s luggage uncovered the suspected narcotics, leading to the immediate seizure of the drugs. The individual is scheduled to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court later this week to face formal drug-related charges.
This incident marks the second arrest of an alleged drug mule at the airport within a four-day period. On 03 September 2026, a 54-year-old suspect was similarly apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport while traveling to Hong Kong, China, after authorities discovered cocaine concealed within his luggage.
According to the South African Police Service, these successive operational successes highlight a sustained, intelligence-driven strategy to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating through South Africa’s major ports of entry.
